She's Having A Foal!

Last Summer I leased a horse named Star. She was great. I would ride in a lesson with her once a week and since we were leasing we were responsible for her and her stall. So even though I didn't like cleaning her stall it had to be done. Anyway... when I cleaned her stall I would ride too, so I was riding a lot. Well her owner (and my instructor) bred her. I was so excited! The vet came and said everything was healthy, so everyone was glad. After about 2 months of her being pregant we found out she had a disease which was E.P.M. which is very common and can be cured. So she was on medicince and everyday we had to go out and walk her around. The pregnacy went on and she was getting better. So when it came close to birth we moved her to a barn closer to Dana's house (my instructor and Star's owner). My friends and I would go and spend the night in the barn with Dana with a T.V. monitor that showed her stall. So we would wake up about every hour and look to see if she was in labor. Then around 5:45 each morning we would wake up and get ready for school or in Dana's case work. I spend about 2 weeks in the barn and on the last day we were there she went into labor after we left. The baby was fine and so was she. Sadly exactly a month after the foal was born we had to put Star down. But it was better for her so she wasn't surfering anymore, because her last week she had gotten a cut and was sick. The baby which was a colt (boy) is fine and growing big. He got a good month of food from Star and is now on milk replacing pellets to get all his nutrients. His registered name is Star's Last Bet but we call him Harley. He is doing good and will be 4 months old on June 22nd.

Wow, that's really neat Court. I'm glad you enjoy that so much.

And I like the colt's name too... I always wanted to ride a Harley.
